How the Cycling Power Zone Calculator Works
Functional Threshold Power (FTP) is the highest average power, in watts, you can sustain for about one hour. Once you know your FTP — from a field test or a recent race effort — this calculator applies the widely used 7-zone power training model (popularized by Andrew Coggan) to break your training intensities into specific watt ranges.

Why Train by Power Zones?
